Professional Development Day 2015
The PMI Sacramento Valley Chapter is proud to share the success of another Professional Development Day! The 170 attendees at this year’s PD Day 2015 were treated to an all-day event, which highlighted the many ways our profession as Project Managers continues to evolve: today, tomorrow, and beyond…
This year’s PD Day event featured insights into our profession from many of Northern California’s Project Management experts. To change up this year’s event, the team selected a new venue and provided attendees the ability to follow the proceedings using a first ever mobile app, developed by In Time Tec!
Attendees were also engaged and entertained with the return of last year’s emcee, Monique Anderson! Monique was more than happy to introduce the impressive lineup of presenters, featuring Pat Garrett, PMO Director at Experis, who as keynote discussed what we should expect to see with the evolution of Project Management in the years ahead.
Some of the esteemed faculty from the UC Davis, Graduate School of Management, shared their outlook of the profession, highlighting the current and the future state of Project Management. Dr. Kim Elsbach showed us various ways to develop our leadership skills, an area of emphasis in the PMI’s Talent Triangle. Dr. Angela Stopper provided an enjoyable discussion on some of the fundamental differences between the multi-generational workforce on our project teams.
Preet Kuar, a recruiter at Pacific Staffing, shared her insights with the trends in employer demands for hiring Project Managers. Jim Olson, Founder & CEO of Westshore Management Group, gave a riveting presentation on some of his best negotiation skills for PMs to employ, both on the job and at the point of hire.
The day wrapped up with thoughtful commentary from our respected panel of experts: Pat Garret (Experis), Mark Layton (Platinum Edge), Mike Verdugo (Hewlett Packard Enterprise), and Greg Kiefer (Kiefer Consulting). The collective knowledge of this group provided some of the industry’s best insights on a variety of Project Management topics, including responses to questions from audience members.
The Sacramento Valley Chapter is very grateful for the support that we received from many local area sponsors, including: Platinum Edge, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Vision Service Plan, Delta Dental, Symsoft Solutions, Equanim Technologies, Experis, Fortuna, Unleashing Leaders, In Time Tec, and the UC Davis Graduate School of Management.
We cannot forget the tireless hours that the PD Day 2015 team gave of their personal time under the leadership of Anthony Chen (Program, Presenters, & Mobile App) and Kathy Takayama (Venue, Catering, & Logistics), who made this event the huge success that it was! Their role as Co-Project Managers over a team of enthusiastic volunteers cannot be underestimated! The team leads who made this event a huge success included: Heather Mickelson (Marketing), Viji Gururajan (Sponsors), Manish Ved (Finance), and Tanya Rosado (Volunteers).
The team was supported by the members of the PMI-SVC Board of Directors, with direction from Charles Schaefer (VP Professional Development) who provided the executive sponsorship and support for this event. We are also grateful for Jim Kline (VP Member Relations), who supported the team through the registration process for individuals, groups, and sponsors, and Lee Folino (VP Administration) who captured our day’s successes in photographs!
We wish to thank the entire Project Management community that continues to support PMI-SVC in our endeavors, like the annual Professional Development Day!
